Western Serbia tour

forests and lakes of Tara and Zlatibor mountains

„This is how I imagine paradise“ said Dr Etkin Clarke, director of the European national parks and nature preservation foundation when he visited Tara mountain. And true paradise it is! Relive the adventure that members of Jeep Club Belgium experienced in april 2011 in some of the most picturesque scenery of western Serbia.

Opening of Jeep Club Serbia in Tara and Zlatibor (May 2010)

A vast network of several thousand kilometres of forest and open space trails, ranging from perfect, smooth dirt roads good enough for passenger cars to some adrenaline packed „winch only“ trails in deep mud or extreme steep passages, you will be overwhelmed by the ever changing natural beauty that surrounds you everywhere. Although Tara is a national park, 4×4 driving is prohibited only in it’s several wildlife reservations, the rest of the area is free for you to explore and enjoy.

Tara-Zlatibor tour

You will experience just about everything that makes up a perfect Jeep holliday – dense forests, deep canyons (Drina canyon is 1000 m deep!), beautiful lakes, grassy ridges with vistas that will force you to stop the cars and enjoy the views, monasteries and ancient history, passing by waterfalls, crossing wild mountain rivers, and see the traditional way of life in the wooden mountain huts. And of course – a 5 hour boat ride through the Drina canyon (with lunch served on the boat) is something that should not be missed!

Jeep Club Belgium Tara – Zlatibor tour (April 2011)

Extensive availability of comfortable three, four and even five star mountain chalets (including the Drvengrad hotel of Emir Kusturica made of old wooden houses moved from all over the region to form a unique ethno-village) makes it easy to plan your daily tours, either based in one place, or sleeping in a different place every night. As far as the traditional cuisine is concerned, you can eat at some of the many fine restaurants, or even have the food delivered and served outdoors in some of the most breathtaking scenery, such as the Bilješke stene scenic view.

The programme for Jeep Club Belgium that you see in the map above can be extended and altered to include areas further to the south such as the Uvac lakes and Pešter highlands, Zlatar and Jadovnik mountains and Sopotnica waterfalls, several more medieval monasteries, or it can extend to the east towards Javor, Golija and Kopaonik mountains, or to the southwest into Montenegro – possibilities are limited only by imagination, and that we have in abundance  8-) .
